Some friends adopted little Rylan right after he was born around Christmas time. This past week they OFFICIALLY became his parents! I helped them celebrate by taking photos of their great looking little family, I am so happy for them

Visited with some relatives at a very nice lake house where we all had a bunch of fun and all around good time. The second morning we were there a heavy fog was over the lake and since I don’t get the opportunity to see that much I went out with my little 5D and Yashica 50mm lens. I do feel like I get a different quality to my photos using this lens and it’s just fun to use. I’m pretty happy with how these images came out.
Got to take photos of our new arc gouging system at work. It hasn’t been released yet so I’m being selective in showing photos that don’t show any branding or the new features. Besides, sparky photos are the most fun anyways. Except for needing to wear all the gear to protect myself (ear plugs, welding shades, respirator mask, overcoat, and steel toe shoes) it was pretty fun, I am whipped tonight though. Taking photos for a large part of the day is surprisingly one of the most tiring activities… go figure.
So, I’ve been wanting to get nicer wheels and tires for my car since getting in August of 2009 and I finally bit the bullet. I think they look so much better than the crappy hubcaps (though I only upped to a 15″ from a 14″ wheel I didn’t want to lose all the cushion) and the nicer tires are an “investment to my safety”
Tires are the only things on the car that actually touch the road, you don’t want to cheap out on this stuff.
I also probably spent way too much time ’shopping these photos in an effort to make it look higher end ^.^
Now that my lovely friend Lisha is married I can finally share the bridal portraits we took!
Lisha is always a great model and we had lots of fun shooting at the Heard-Craig House in McKinney, Texas. I went for a “vintage” feel on the processing of these images, the soft, rose colored look suits these images well I think.
I went with the boyfriend down to his hometown near Victoria, Texas for a family wedding this past weekend. While out there we went with his family to go peruse around some family land and investigate one of the older and uninhabited buildings out there.
We’re planning on doing a photo tour of a few of these places from the boy’s childhood, we just need more down time (took these photos in less than 30 minutes, I could have spent the better part of a day there if I had the opportunity).
The sky was overcast with some much needed rain which gave an interesting quality to the light. I also liked the black and white look for any photos showing the sky because it was so gray. It would be interesting to get this place in different seasons and see what I liked best, I doubt I’ll ever have THAT much free time though
Here’s the whole gallery, but here are a few of my favorites:
I was on the hunt for a nice manual focus lens, I thought it would be a nice addition to my lens arsenal (I should do reviews of all my lenses BTW). I actually purchased and returned a Zeiss lens that I thought would fulfill this want and though it was a beautifully well made lens, the optics weren’t any better than my current Canon 50 f/1.4. I couldn’t justify keeping a $700 lens that wasn’t noticeably better, or at least different enough, from my existing line-up. Then I found a used Yashica ML 50mm f/1.4 (a poor man’s Zeiss) in great condition and only $100. Much more palatable to the pocket book
This is a wonderful lens, it has a great feel to it, and I like that it makes me think more because it’s manual focus only. Also, since it’s built for manual focus it’s much easier to use in that way than any of my other lens except for my 100L macro. I’ve been tending to underexpose with it, so I’ve corrected these images for that, but I’ve tried not to mess with them too much in post processing, but that’s like my favorite part so I can’t give it up completely
Da bunnies!
More photos after the jump…
My newest nephew! I did a photoshoot for my baby gift to my sister’s newest baby boy a couple weeks ago. Cute little kids sure make it easy to take photos that are hard not to love
His big brother August wasn’t being the most cooperative, hopefully I’ll be able to get some better photos of the two bros down the line when August has had a little more time getting used to the fact that he’s a big brother and might kind of start liking his baby bro.
Sometimes my day job is pretty darn cool
The other day I was asked to take photos during one of our training sessions on the Tweco product line. I got quite a few compliments on the images which is always nice (ego boosts can’t hurt right?). The image below is by far my favorite.
